Beer U-Turn

West Ham fan groups, on the Independent Supporters Committee, led by WHUST chair Sue Watson, appear to have secured a u-turn on staggering beer and food price increases. Stories in the Mail and on fan websites report the claim that prices will be cut but, officially, they club has only said they are “actively working on pricing”.

WHUST provided evidence that E20 was in breach of the concession agreement with the club, which pegs prices at West Ham to the average of three other London clubs: Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs.

Social media posts initially suggested the price of a pint could be as high as £7.60 but these were misleading as the photos used came from concerts held at the stadium. West Ham matches do have lower prices.

But on Sunday Hammers fans saw prices as high as £7.30, with the basic Amstel lager selling for £6.80. That alone was a 60p a pint – or 10% – rise on last season’s £6.20 price tag – already exorbitant in WHUST’s view.
