FSE Europa Conference League Final 2023 Fans Survey

Football fans often face multiple challenges when travelling to watch their team play in European competitions, from late fixtures and visa requirements to high ticket prices and aggressive policing. In order to improve this situation, Football Supporters Europe (FSE) monitors conditions in UEFA Club Competitions.

Supporters who attended the UEFA Europa Conference League Final 2023 in Prague are invited to complete the following survey to provide information on relevant topics, including travel arrangements, ticket prices, allocation, policing/stewarding, catering, etc.

Cryptocurrency warnings

WHUST welcomes the news that the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced new advertising rules regarding the marketing of cryptoassets to UK consumers.

WHUST, alongside other West Ham fan groups and the Football Supporters Association, has been concerned about the emergence of cryptocurrencies being targeted at supporters, often as part of a process for fan engagement on opinion polls, or to buy memorabilia.

Members of the WHUST board today had an online session with Football Supporters Europe and supporter reps from AZ Alkmaar. We exchanged information concerning supporters for the home and away legs of our Europa Conference semi-final legs.

FSA National Supporters Survey 2023 launched

Every few years The Football Supporters’ Association conduct a national fans survey to assess the state of the game and the views of football supporters.

The last of these fans’ censuses was conducted in 2017, to which more than 8,000 fans from across the football pyramid gave their opinions. A lot has happened in the six years since they last polled supporters – the introduction of VAR, the COVID-19 pandemic, the spectre of the European Super League raising its head and the subsequent Fan-led Review of football governance to name but a few major impacts on our game.

The Annual General Meeting of the Trust took place on Wednesday 15th February 2023 and was held online via Zoom video-conferencing.

Metropolitan Police Turnaround Plan

At the latest Metropolitan Police Independent Advisory Group for football supporters, one of the agenda items WHUST raised, was the Turnaround Plan from Sir Mark Rowley; the current Met Commissioner.

WHUST made the point that football supporters make up a significant ‘community’ across London that experience policing for every game attended. Further we were clear that each football supporter comes from their own communities, so will have a view and opinion on the Police and policing they experience.

Calling out the BBC

WHUST wins BBC retraction of West Ham hooligan claim

WHUST has secured a rewrite by the BBC after it published an inaccurate and exaggerated report calling West Ham fans “hooligans”. The story was circulated to local papers and “cut and pasted” by several other journalists too.

Fan-led Review: One Year On

A new report by Tracey Crouch MP, chair of the Fan Led Review of Football Governance, shows how football would benefit from its recommendations – which have still not been implemented 12 months on.

On behalf of WHUST, chair Sue Watson and board member Chris Wheal attended a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Football Supporters in the House of Lords this morning where The Fan Led Review: One Year On was launched.

Unaccompanied Under 16s

The Club and Stadium Operating representatives presented the ISC members and FSA officer with an overview of the safeguarding policy with the recognition of the statutory obligations to Premier League regulations, Newham Council and conformity of the Stadium’s operating licence. There followed a discussion of the relevant enforcement policy and the roles of the stewards and SLOs.
